Start with the Interview

 

Start a short story with an interview. That’s right, an interview. Pretend that you are being interviewed by a big uppity up of a fortune 500 company. The questions are quirky and a little out-of-the ordinary for such a simple, mundane position (like dog sitting). But, this schmuck won’t let you off the hook. He’s digging deep into all the tiny white-lies on your resume.

 

Here’s some questions to get you going…pick up where the dialogue leaves off…

 

            It started like a normal interview, a man in a black suit with a faux silk tie, leaning back in his chair and cracking his knuckles. His forehead crinkles slightly with each facial expression. “Says here,” his finger tips move the resume and cover letter across the desk top like a water strider gliding across a still pond, “you’ve got seven years in the funeral industry.”  I nodded, leaned forward, anticipating the question that was sure to follow…
